Frequently Asked Questions

These are some common questions that clients have about working together. If you don’t see your question answered below, please

  • The therapy process begins with a 90-minute initial consultation during which we will talk about why you are seeking therapy, your current symptoms and how they affect your life, your personal history, and your goals for treatment. This initial appointment is also an opportunity for us to get to know one another and for you to ask questions that you may have about the process. We will work together to develop a tailored plan to meet your specific needs.

For children and teens, the initial appointment will be split into two parts. The first part will be a parent interview, and the second half will be a meeting with your child/teen to gather their input and to establish a comfortable relationship.

  • The amount of time in therapy can vary depending on the concerns that brought you to treatment and your goals. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a collaborative, structured, action-oriented therapy. This structure makes it more focused and practical, helping you to achieve specific and measurable goals. We will regularly assess your progress. On average, most people attend sessions for 3 to 12 months.

  • Westport Cognitive Behavioral Solutions does not accept insurance directly. The choice to not take insurance was made so that treatment can be dictated by what is best for you, not by what an insurance company imposes.

You can consult your insurance company to ask about out-of-network benefits for services. If you would like to submit claims, I can provide you with a superbill, which is a detailed receipt, that can be submitted to your insurance company for potential reimbursement.

  • You can reach out by phone or using the contact form here on this website. We can set up a time to speak so that I can answer any questions and find a time to schedule an initial consultation.

  • The results of cognitive-behavioral therapy will be better when the family is involved, so I strive to involve parents in appointments as much as possible. It is important for you to learn what we are doing and how to apply strategies at home.

The amount of involvement will depend on the child/teen. After I get to know your child, I will work with you to let you know the plan about your involvement in the sessions. I would love to have you FULLY involved but will also decide this based on your child's desires. Regardless, I will check in with you at the beginning or end of most sessions.

I also offer parenting sessions as needed to supplement therapy.

  • The No Surprises Act provides protection against unexpected medical bills. Under the law, healthcare providers must give patients who don’t have insurance or are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) explaining the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services (i.e., weekly psychotherapy). A GFE is available upon scheduling or upon request.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059.
